Another FS #FarmAttack
Another farmer has died in the Free State – in just less than a week. This, as police responded to a farm attack scene at Thelma farm outside Odendaalsrus on Wednesday night – where a farmer and a suspect were declared dead on the scene.
According to police spokesperson, Thandi Mbambo, two suspects arrived at the farm whilst the farmer’s wife was sitting outside. She allegedly shot one of the suspects, and as her husband came out of the house, he was allegedly shot by one of the suspects. Mbambo adds that the other suspect fled the scene. Both the suspect and the farmer died at the scene. She says two counts of murder have been registered for further investigation.
This comes after OFM News recently reported that 26-year-old Eddie Hills, who is the son of slain 56-year-old Hennenman farmer, Pieter Hills, died in hospital following a farm attack last week where he was stabbed in the chest and his father was fatally shot on Swartpan farm outside Hennenman.
Two suspects arrested in connection with this crime will again appear in the Hennenman Magistrate’s Court on 16 November for bail application, after they appeared in court on Monday and Wednesday respectively.
Meanwhile, Free State MEC of Agriculture, William Bulwane has condemned the recent killings of three farmers, which includes Hills and 37-year-old Tebogo Machakela – who was shot on his farm in Odendalsrus by an unknown number of suspects in August this year. He died in hospital last week. The third farmer who lost his life as a result of a farm attack is 60-year-old Dave Wessels from Viljoenskroon. He was found dead in his bedroom last month following a robbery.
