A gruesome farm murder has been reported in KZN once more, just days after another shocking case left the rural community reeling. On Monday, it was confirmed that three members of the same family were killed during a horrifying attack at their Bishopstowe property – and one of the victims was a man in his eighties.

BISHOPSTOWE FARM MURDER – WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR

A manhunt for the perpetrators has been launched, and we’ve had several horrendous details confirmed to us on Tuesday morning, revealing the extent of the brutality enacted upon these farm residents:

  • A bush-knife was allegedly used to hack at the three victims in Bishopstowe, KZN
  • As well as the 84-year-old male, a 58-year-old male, and a 60-year-old woman were also found at the property.
  • Their sugar cane field had been torched during the farm murder, and money was stolen from inside the house.
  • The grim discovery was made by a relative on Monday, shortly after 18:00.
  • This happened just 48 hours after another elderly farmer, Bill Theron, was shot dead in Crammon, KZN.

LOCAL GOVERNMENT SLAMMED FOR ‘INACTION’

Chris Pappas is the DA’s KZN Spokesperson on Agriculture and Rural Development. He has vented his anger towards the provincial government, blaming Premier Sihle Zikalala for failing to put any measures in place to help prevent farm murders. According to the politician, the local government have been ‘motionless’ on this issue:

We are deeply saddened by the murder of three people in the Midlands area of KZN. The incident saw a family of three brutally killed near Bishopstowe, including an 84-year-old victim. This heinous crime is just the latest in what has been a terrible and tragic few months within KZN’s farming community. “The DA in KZN extends its deepest condolences to all families and communities affected by the ongoing violence within our rural areas. The government is motionless on matters involving farmers and farmworkers, who are being attacked and murdered at a very high rate. The Premier and his provincial government are nowhere to be found.”
