Odendaalsrus Warrant officer in court for corruption 28 January 2021

An operation by the provincial anti-corruption unit, the Odendaalsrus Crime Detection unit and Kroonstad Local Criminal Record Centre led to the arrest of a warrant officer stationed at Odendaalsrus.

On 20 January Warrant Officer Frederick de Bruin (50) was arrested for allegedly demanding an R10 000 bribe from a motorist. According to statements he approached an accused in a case of driving under the influence, demanding cash to ensure the case would “disappear”. The incident was reported and De Bruin was arrested.

He appeared in the Odendaalsrus Magistrate’s Court on corruption charges on Friday 22 January 2021. He was granted R1 500 bail and will appear again on 3 March.
