BLOEMFONTEIN -Multidisciplinary crime prevention and law enforcement operations conducted as part of the Minister of Police, General Bheki Cele’s visit to Free State to monitor Safer Festive Season Operations and adherence to Covid-19 regulations yielded positive results when a number of people were arrested and drugs amongst other things were confiscated.
In preparation thereof Detectives throughout the province conducted tracing operations and managed to arrest 325 wanted suspects in crimes ranging from rape, stock theft, burglary, murder, sexual assault, assault GBH, possession of drugs etc.
During these operations, the vigilant members of Welkom K9 unit deployed in Bloemfontein spotted a black Audi A3 at the corner of Hanger and St George streets. They pulled off the vehicle and asked for permission from the owner to search the car. Inside the vehicle they found pieces of Chrystal Methane and officers suspiciously believed that more drugs could be found at the driver’s residential place. They asked the male person to lead them to his home.
On arrival at a flat in Raymond Mhlaba street, the lessee allowed members to search the house and inside the closet, the police found drugs in various plastic wrappings stashed away.
CAT weighing 1. 9 kilograms, chrystal methane, rock, cocaine and Thai White drugs with an estimated street value of R1 000 000-00 rand were found and confiscated.
Three suspects, a 40-year-old male and his 27-year-old girlfriend as well as another 38-year-old male were arrested and charged with dealing in drugs.
“This proves that members are vigilant and operationally ready so as to ensure that inhabitants of this country are and feel safe” said General Bheki Cele whilst inspecting the confiscated consignment.
All the suspects will appear in court on Monday 21 December 2020.
