Woman dies in Virginia after Doctor ignores test results.
The FF Plus demands that the MEC for Health in the Free State, Montseng Tsiu, must launch an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman from Virginia earlier this week.
The patient passed away on Tuesday after the doctor from the Katleho Hospital reportedly ignored the results of her ECG test. He threw the test results, which indicated that she was possibly having a heart attack, in the dustbin.
She was sent home with paracetamol and aspirin and the next day, she died.
In its initial response, the Free State Department of Health indicated that it was satisfied that the doctor had acted appropriately.
The FF Plus has officially requested the MEC to launch an investigation within 21 days.
Poor service at state hospitals may not cost people their lives. Doctors are human and to err is human; but when test results are blatantly ignored and allegedly thrown in the dustbin and that action could possibly have lead to the death of a patient, then the Department is obliged to investigate a case of possible gross negligence.
The Constitution determines that patients have the right to medical treatment. If the ANC continues to implement its NHI policy, more will have to be done to protect the rights and lives of the people. At present, not enough is done.
If the MEC does not launch an investigation into the incident and finalises the matter, the FF Plus will request the national Minister of Health to conduct a ministerial investigation.
